Number Fourteen of My 14 Favorites from 2014, Plus Outfit of the Day

Number Fourteen of My 14 Favorites from 2014

Hi Everyone!
Everyone was challenged on YouTube by Nathalie, TheBeautyDiva to come up with their favorite 14 items of 2014.  Most of mine were not makeup since I had just started my channel and had already talked about all my favorite makeup items.  So I decided to come up with a list of items that I used every day or that I would quickly replace if lost or broken.

Nathalie's channel link:

I thought I would make a daily blog of each item one by one.

#14.  Coconut Oil

My last but certainly not least favorite item for 2014 is Organic Virgin Coconut Oil.
I had read so much about the benefits of coconut oil that I thought why not try it. I am glad I did because I have found many uses for it.  I have even oiled my door hinges with it when I didn't want to go to the barn for WD40.

I use it to cook with. It adds flavor when I stir fry my sweet potatoes or yams.
When I am hungry for something sweet this is what I try to eat instead of reaching for a cookie or a piece of cake.

I use it in my tea.  I don’t use it every day, but I try to put a teaspoon in my tea at least once a week.  It is most delicious in hot chocolate.  I will sometimes warm up chocolate almond milk and put a teaspoon in that.

I use it for deodorant.
I found a recipe on Pinterest and I use it for my deodorant since regular deodorant makes my underarms swell up.

I have heard that consuming coconut oil helps with dementia.
It is also used in the old fashioned method of “oil pulling”.

I use it as a skin moisturizer.  I put a dab on any eczema breakouts I have and also put some on as a lip conditioner.  When I wear stubborn mascara I use it as a makeup remover.

I am no expert but I prefer using this product over petroleum based products.

Here is an outfit I put together for church this morning.

The boots are Naturalizers from last year.  They are so comfortable because they have a kitten type heel.  The pants/leggings are Eileen Fisher from last year.  The layered tops are again BOTH from Cracker Barrel Country Store Restaurant.  I love long, flowy tops and some can get really expensive.  But the ones I purchased at Cracker Barrel have all been 39.99.  When compared to Designer Brands this price is reasonable.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blogs.
I really appreciate it.

#12.  Bragg’s Liquid Aminos

My number twelve favorite item for 2014 is Bragg’s Amino Acids.  For my health a few years ago, I had to give up soy sauce (all fermented foods).  I also had to give up gluten.  My dietician recommended Amino Acids as a substitute.

I also use it instead of salt.  I stir fry my meat and add vegetables.  I like to eat a lot of Asian Foods.  I spray the Amino Acids on AFTER I finish cooking.
It seems to lose the flavor if I try to cook with it.

Here is a link to the website for more information:

Our Bragg Liquid Aminos are made from health-giving soybeans and purified water. NON-GMO PROJECT VERIFIED & GLUTEN-FREE, they are an excellent, healthy, gourmet replacement for Tamari and Soy Sauce. No alcohol, not fermented or heated, Bragg Liquid Aminos Seasoning adds taste delights to most foods.

If you have made a New Year’s Resolution to improve your health, please read about these Amino Acids.

#11.  IT Physicians Formula Eye Liner Trio

If I have to go out the door in a hurry, I like to at least put on eyeliner.  Most people would choose lipstick, but I could put lip balm on in the car and be fine.  But my eyes disappear without eyeliner.  My number eleven favorite is my Physicians Formula Eye Pencil.

I have tried hundreds of eyeliner pencils.  Most of them smudge off during the day or transfer on top of my eyeshadow.  I have found this trio to be excellent.  I mainly use the black that’s in every trio but sometimes the other colors are very handy to have.  I have looked for a package of just the black but I haven’t seen any.  I have bought the shades of grey set, the nude set, green eye set and the blue eye set.

#8.  Ring Guards or Stacking Rings

My next favorite items for 2014 were my ring guards.  I lost weight a few years ago and my wedding ring no longer fit tight enough.  So instead of taking it to the jeweler to get it sized I bought inexpensive stacking rings to go on either side of it.  Now I don’t have to worry about it falling off.

I first started out with clear stones with white metal and they were very, very inexpensive.  I would have to replace them every three months or so when they would turn colors or a stone would fall out.  I upgraded slightly to sterling and Swarovski crystals.

My favorites are my black enamel stainless steel rings.  I bought them in a kiosk in the mall last year around Christmas.  That kiosk wasn’t there this year because I wanted to see if I could get them in other colors.  They are the perfect width and they are so comfortable.  Of course I have a lot of black in my wardrobe that I can wear them with.

I wear the gold stones with my gold jewelry.  I like changing out the colors every day.  I think we ladies like to play with our jewelry like toys.

#7.  Sanuk Sandals

If I lost these sandals I would definitely go right out and buy more.  I bought these for my Mom and she LOVES them.

Several years ago my best friend and I were catching up on the phone as we always do every Sunday.  We both told each other that we had found the perfect flip flops.  I went first and told her mine were black.  She said hers were black too.  I told her that the soles of mine were made of yoga mats and she said hers were too!  We found we had bought the same sandals the same week in two different states.  Each year we buy a new pair.  She has bought several black pairs.  I tend to go with a different color each year.

Here's one pair I think I need to buy this year:

I recommend wearing these in the house too if you have tile floors.  We have worn them each year on vacation.  You can walk all day in them.  The cute sandals that are in style right now are great but when you need to do a lot of walking these should be the ones.
Below you will see us all wearing these sandals in Mexico.

#6.  Michael Kors Fushia Tote Bag

For the year 2014 this was definitely my favorite purse.  I have been obsessed with pink for a couple of years now.

Much of my summer wardrobe has pink in it.  So the purchase of this purse was a natural conclusion.  Even though it was a little pricey I made up for that by the cost per wearing being very low.

Cost per wearing = cost of item divided by times you wear it.

Please read the following article linked below to learn more on how and why this is important.

So the cost for 2014 was only $2.50 per day.  And I will definitely bring it back and use it in 2015 in the spring.

#5.  Chi Flat Iron

I bought my original Chi back around 2004 or so.  This was before they were mass produced and you had to buy them from hair stylists in and around Houston.  This was a game changer in my life.  It turned my frizzy, cotton ball hair into the longed for stick, straight styles that were so popular.
My Chi was confiscated on a cruise a couple of years ago because I made the mistake of packing it into my checked baggage.  Always carry these on board with you.  They confiscate anything that could cause a fire.  My Joy Mangano Little Steamer was also confiscated.  I had to use my step daughter's Chi which was one of the mass produced ones.  It was not the same.  When I got back home I had to go on a quest to find another one closest to the one I had.  I found one.  I will put a link below.

There are many good flat irons out there now.  I am just partial to this brand since it was what I started with.  They now make one that has slightly rounded plates.  It is still a flat iron but it can make it easier to curl your hair.  Yes, you can curl your hair with a flat iron too.  There are many YouTube videos that will show you how.

#4.  Velcro Rollers

My fourth and fifth items are also hair related.  My hair is so fine that it will not hold a curl and falls flat against my head.  I found a way to tease my hair that gives me volume.  It involves using Velcro rollers.

I bought mine at Albertson’s, but you can find these at many different stores.  Here is a link to Walmart’s online purchasing.  The cost here is around 8-9 dollars.  They are worth that to try them if you have fine hair like mine.

I take one section of my hair starting at my crown with my cow lick.  My cow lick is my nemesis.  With each section do the following in this order:
  1. Tease
  2. Hairspray
  3. Go over tease with flat iron
  4. Wrap in a Velcro roller

With my hair cut in a bob, this is the only way I can wear it so that it will stay in that cute bob shape.  Otherwise my hair will go in many different directions.

#2.  AeroPilates

My second favorite item for 2014 was my AeroPilates Machine.  I have had it for several years now.  When I first received it I was about 35 pounds heavier.  Since you have to “pull” your own weight it was much more difficult for me then.  Now, I am accustomed to using it but I still “feel” the workout each time.  And if I do the workout every day I really feel like my muscles are toned and stretched at the same time.  It is especially good for the core muscles.
I prop mine up against a wall of my extra bedroom so it doesn't take up much space at all when not in use.

I highly recommend getting this machine or any machine that you will be inspired to use every day.  I bought my AeroPilates from QVC. I did not buy the most expensive version.  I started with this one and told myself I can always trade up at a later date.  But this one is still going strong.

#1.  IPad/YouTube

I love my IPad and it is how I stay up to date with all my social media.  My phone is too small and my PC isn’t mobile.  I even use it as a camera and video camcorder.  I then use it to edit my videos using IMovie.

I have a tripod and attachment that hold my IPad.  I bought the following attachments for my IPhone and IPad.  I really like them and recommend them.  The website is called Caddy Buddy.  The tripod is separate and I bought it at Best Buy.

I filmed our family’s Christmas gathering and made a mini movie of Christmas 2014.  I depend on YouTube tutorials to show me how to use IMovie.  I am still trying to learn Movie Maker on my PC.

Amateur photography and videography can be great hobbies.
You are never too old to learn something new!
