A Mild Winter Day Outfit

HI EVERYONE!

I wore this outfit on a very warm day in the middle of our southern winter.  Please don't hate me because it reached into the 80's one day.  It was only one day.
I took advantage of the mild weather and wore this short sleeve t-shirt with my shooties.
This is one of the shirts I bought in Florida at the Macy's after Christmas sale.  Yay, for an opportunity to wear it!  I love blouses with the chiffon trim on the bottom.  It just adds a touch of girly and whimsy to a t-shirt or sweatshirt.

A

This outfit was just fun.  So I had to put a ponytail with it.  My hair isn't long enough for a ponytail so I have to use an extension that I have that attaches to my crown.
It gives me a short but much thicker ponytail than my real hair would allow.
I have to pin my hair up in the back because it is so short.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blogs.  I really appreciate it.

Outfit of the Day, Fashion Over 50, Toothache, Chit Chat

Outfit of the Day, Fashion Over 50, Toothache, Chit Chat

HI EVERYONE!

I hope you are having a wonderful day!

In this picture I am wearing Spanx Black Leggings from Dillards.
The Black lace top is from Crackle Barrel Country Store and Restaurant.  They didn’t have a medium so I bought a large.  I probably should have returned it.  But it is lovely so I will try to make it work.  Because it is on the large side I wore another top underneath.

I have a long lace camisole underneath that I purchased from Target.  It is extremely long and this is the first time I am wearing it because of that.  It is also a racer back style.

My black ankle boots are from DSW and the brand is Impo.  I have spoke about these on my YouTube channel.  They are so comfortable I could actually run in them if my life were in danger.

I have a tooth that is giving me problems.  I have to go to an endodontist to have an old root canal reworked.  They will drill through my crown to get to the problem.  Sounds terrifying!  I am not looking forward to it but I don’t want this pain either.   I am on an antibiotic and my appointment isn't until next week.  Eek.

I have been trying to stay focused on some of my resolutions or goals for this year.  I do walk in the evenings if I get home in time or if the weather allows.  I need to read my Bible more than just in church.  I also need to concentrate on eating more vegetables.  How are you doing?  Comment below if you wish to chit chat.

Number Fourteen of My 14 Favorites from 2014, Plus Outfit of the Day

Number Fourteen of My 14 Favorites from 2014

Hi Everyone!
Everyone was challenged on YouTube by Nathalie, TheBeautyDiva to come up with their favorite 14 items of 2014.  Most of mine were not makeup since I had just started my channel and had already talked about all my favorite makeup items.  So I decided to come up with a list of items that I used every day or that I would quickly replace if lost or broken.

Nathalie's channel link:

I thought I would make a daily blog of each item one by one.

#14.  Coconut Oil

My last but certainly not least favorite item for 2014 is Organic Virgin Coconut Oil.
I had read so much about the benefits of coconut oil that I thought why not try it. I am glad I did because I have found many uses for it.  I have even oiled my door hinges with it when I didn't want to go to the barn for WD40.

I use it to cook with. It adds flavor when I stir fry my sweet potatoes or yams.
When I am hungry for something sweet this is what I try to eat instead of reaching for a cookie or a piece of cake.

I use it in my tea.  I don’t use it every day, but I try to put a teaspoon in my tea at least once a week.  It is most delicious in hot chocolate.  I will sometimes warm up chocolate almond milk and put a teaspoon in that.

I use it for deodorant.
I found a recipe on Pinterest and I use it for my deodorant since regular deodorant makes my underarms swell up.

I have heard that consuming coconut oil helps with dementia.
It is also used in the old fashioned method of “oil pulling”.

I use it as a skin moisturizer.  I put a dab on any eczema breakouts I have and also put some on as a lip conditioner.  When I wear stubborn mascara I use it as a makeup remover.

I am no expert but I prefer using this product over petroleum based products.

Here is an outfit I put together for church this morning.

The boots are Naturalizers from last year.  They are so comfortable because they have a kitten type heel.  The pants/leggings are Eileen Fisher from last year.  The layered tops are again BOTH from Cracker Barrel Country Store Restaurant.  I love long, flowy tops and some can get really expensive.  But the ones I purchased at Cracker Barrel have all been 39.99.  When compared to Designer Brands this price is reasonable.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blogs.
I really appreciate it.

#13.  Epsom Salts

My number thirteen favorite item for 2014 is Epsom Salt.
I love relaxing and taking a bath after a long day of work or play.  About every other night I add a cup of Epsom Salt to my bath.  Most people use it once a week for a long 20 minute soak.  But I use it more often for shorter soaks.

I love the way it soothes sore muscles.  We have probably heard our mothers or grandmothers advising us to soak our feet when they are tired and sore.  There is always something to what our mothers tell us.

I believe that it does help the body flush out toxins.  I am no expert but I think it has healing properties.

Here is a very interesting blog post about 20 ways to use Epsom Salt:

Here is an outfit I wore on a Casual Friday at work.  My jeans are Jordache skinny leg jeans from Walmart.  My two layered tops are from Cracker Barrel Country Store and Restaurant.

#6.  Michael Kors Fushia Tote Bag

For the year 2014 this was definitely my favorite purse.  I have been obsessed with pink for a couple of years now.

Much of my summer wardrobe has pink in it.  So the purchase of this purse was a natural conclusion.  Even though it was a little pricey I made up for that by the cost per wearing being very low.

Cost per wearing = cost of item divided by times you wear it.

Please read the following article linked below to learn more on how and why this is important.

So the cost for 2014 was only $2.50 per day.  And I will definitely bring it back and use it in 2015 in the spring.

My Irresistible Me Hair Extensions

Hi Everyone!

I bought some Irresistible Me Hair Extensions during the summer but never wore them because it was too hot.  I low lighted them as soon as I received them following two videos on YouTube. I bought them through Nisha's 10% off discount code on her channel called SugarPuffandFluff.  She also shows how to low light them.  I also watched the channel Hairgirl247.

I took them out a few days ago and cut them just a little longer than my own bob.  I mainly wanted them to give me volume rather than length.  Here are some pictures after I finished cutting them.

Here you can see how the back of my hair looks.

I am always trying to change up my hair.  These extensions give me an alternative to my shorter, thinner normal hair.

Weekly Fab Five Favorites

Please read my blogs  if you also love fashion, style, makeup, hair, health, books,
travel and everyday chit chat!

FASHION OVER 50

I just uploaded a video on my YouTube Channel about my Weekly Fab Five Favorites. My YouTube Channel is TexasCajun.

Products Mentioned in the video are:

  • Burt’s Bees Cool Collection, Kissable Color
  • Suzanne Somers 3 Way Poncho  (in picture above)
  • Target Black Boots (in picture above)
  • No Nonsense Denim Leggings (in picture above)
  • Dooney & Bourke Leather Shelby Shopper

In my weekly video I try to highlight one organic item.  This week I didn't have an organic item but I did have a 100% natural item.  It was Burt's Bees Cool Collection Lip Shimmer.  I like to have chapstick like lippies handy all over the house and in the car and at work.  This is a set of three I bought at Walmart.

I also bought the Suzanne Somers 3 Way Poncho in black.  It is a very comfortable top that looks great with leggings or skinny jeans.  I like how the back flows away from the body.

I went to Target on Black Friday for the black boots shown above and below.  I actually wanted the ones with fur but they were sold out of my size.

At Walmart a few weeks ago I purchased Denim Leggings by No Nonsense.  They feel like pajamas.  They are so comfortable.  I highly recommend these because they are knit not woven.

Lastly I purchased the Dooney & Bourke handbag from QVC.  It was a Today's Special Value a couple of weeks ago.  But it is still available.

Below is a small excerpt from my YouTube video.

Fashion Over 50, Skinny Jeans, Leopard Cardigan over a Long Lace Tank Top

HI EVERYONE!

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

In this picture I am wearing Jordache Skinny Jeans from Walmart and the Leopard Cardigan is also from Walmart.

The long lace tank top came from Cracker Barrel Restaurant (but I have seen them everywhere).  My boots are from Born about three years ago.  They are SO comfortable.  I try to wear them as much as possible.  They were the inspiration for this outfit.

I have to change up my hairstyles or I go crazy so I used my waving iron from Vidal Sassoon.

Fashion Over 50, Most Comfortable Outfit Ever

Hi Everyone!
This outfit is like wearing pajamas.  I bought the brown pants last winter from Eileen Fisher at Dillards.  The fabric is so soft but still very substantial.  The two layered tops are from Cracker Barrel Old Country Store located in their Restaurant.  I bought these in the spring of this year.

I am wearing last year's sweater dress with this year's shooties and tights.
It was a warm enough day that I didn't need higher, regular boots.

Below are two more outfits with my leggings.

Below are some outfits with my jeans....

Fashion Over 50, Try On, Try On, Try On

TRY ON DIFFERENT STYLES:  If there is one thing I have learned on this road of life is to never dismiss a fashion trend or style without first trying it on.  You may not go with an entire head to toe look, but you might try the bottom or maybe the top.  You may not think you could wear a shoe style but if you get a toned down version of the style or a “comfort brand”, you may be able to wear it.  Don’t give up!

For example:  I thought I could not wear leggings/jeggings/skinny jeans.  I tried on so many pairs!  But I did find some Spanx leggings that I found to fit.  They are made of thick fabric and the waistband and pockets hit just the right spots.

TRY ON DIFFERENT SIZES:  Don’t let vanity get in the way and prevent you from trying on a bigger size.  It may hang better and cling less.  Remember designers use fit models and those models change each season.  That is why I have size 8’s in my closet and size 10’s in the SAME BRAND!  They both fit but one year a size 8 fits me and the next year I have to go up to a 10.  This happens in reverse too.

Using Same example:  I bought two pair of Spanx leggings last year in a size large.  But when I went to buy more this year, I had to size up.  They were also longer this year.  I can cuff them up.

TRY ON TWO IDENTICAL ITEMS IN THE SAME SIZE:  Believe it or not, there will be a difference.  Have you ever tried on two blouses in two different colors and one color fit totally different?  I started sewing before I was a teenager.  I was in 4H and we entered our creations every year in a community fashion show.  I think that began my fascination with clothes, fabric, and styles.  There were times I used the same pattern but chose different fabric.  I did this many times with favorite pants patterns.  I noticed that each pair would fit differently, even if the fabric was the same just in a different color.  If you try on something and it doesn’t quite fit and you love it, try another one on in the same size.  You may a find a perfect fit.

Using Same example:  I bought three different colors of the Spanx leggings all in the same size.  But the grey pair fit me the very best.

GO WITH LOTS OF ENERGY:  Don’t go shopping when you are sick or tired.  You will not feel like trying on clothes.  I sometimes break my shopping up into segments.  For instance, I will go looking around on my lunch hour.  I will pick out items I want to come back and try on later when I have more time.  I love ordering from the internet and from the home shopping networks.  However, many times I have to send back the items because once I try it on, it is not perfect.  I do send 50% of what I order back.

Hope this helps someone.  Don’t get stuck in a rut.  You can follow the trends if you tweak them to work with your lifestyle and body type.

Fashion Over 50, Inspiration, See It, Style It

This is an inspiration picture I found on Pinterest.  I shopped my closet and put together this outfit.  Similar not identical.  Shopping your closet is an inexpensive way to extend your wardrobe.  You can break apart outfits you normally wear and wear them in totally different ways.  Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.  But why not give it a try.  It doesn't cost anything!
